How do I customize a DateField's DateMenu?

I haven't yet tried combing through the source code to figure out how I might do this myself, but my hope was that someone might already have a suggestion.

Basically, I'd like to change DateMenu so that the top section is displayed as
March < 2007 >
where each arrow allows the Year to be incremented/decremented. I know that one can use CTRL-UP/DOWN but I don't think it's reasonable to expect users to use key combinations on a datepicker widget.

Any suggestions?

It would be quite a lot of work. You'd have to redo the DatePicker's onRender method, and that's quite big.

I agree that year should be selectable/incrementable by mouse gestures. The downarrow should go after the month name, and there should be ClickRepeater arrows to increment/decrement the years.
