YVR Car Rental Question

Already checked out limited info on FT in the car rental section. I will be in YVR for a few weeks atleast and need a good deal on a car. If any of you folks know of one, please share,

It just occurs to me that the Burrard St Budget lot has been advertising cars for $19/day. There's also another small outfit called Lo-Cost that might be able to give you a good price. They don't have any airport facility at all, however.

Thanks got a rate of $126 a week from Discount for a Standard 4 door (appears to be between intermediate and full size?). Location is off site, 10 minutes from YVR so I'm hoping for no concession fee.If you arrive on the airport shuttle bus, they'll still nail you for the concession fee. But given the rate you got, I'm not sure you can do any better overall by switching cars/contracts.

Nevertheless, if you haven't already seen them, here are a couple of Discount links you might be interested in:

Discount has always been pretty good about upgrading me without even asking however. They also offer reasonable service, though if your flight is late, they may only hold the rez for 2 hours. That will only be a problem if they are close to being sold out, which given the rate seems unlikely.

just to repeat myself....as I started a new topic by mistake...

I got a great deal from Alamo/National $190 a week for a sport-ute...I would try them.

Also moving to Vancouver from Winnipeg but not until next year...Winnipeg is not such a bad place to live but no ocean or mountains...

If its only you or 1 other person get like a 2 door compact or standard size car, I recommend some where that has an airport location, its easier for you.

Alamo
Avis
Budget
Hertz
National
Thrifty

you can earn Aeroplan Miles which is a good thing.

I think your best bet on cars is generally to just go to Travelocity and check -- but make sure you select "+ others" for car rental company. (If you leave it at "Featured Partners" you're likely to end up paying more.

Once you've used Travelocity to get a feel for prices in general, got to the individual web sites and check directly with the company. Sometimes that will save you additional money.

Be warned that YVR charges a usurious 15+% concession fee. Depending on how long you will be renting, you might be better to make a one-day one-way rental to a non-airport location, then trade into a second reservation for a one-way rental back to the airport. There won't be any drop fees, and you might save a chunk of change.

And of course, you'd get double the points.

Just remember the concession fee is charged on the sub-total so that includes not only the rental charges but taxes and other fees.
